Gopal Sehjpal…. started his career way back in 1962 with KODAK. Starting with office management, his own initiative took him to a successful and long stint in Sales. Being responsible for institutional sales of Radiographic products to radiologists and clinics, he gained a rich experience in sales between 1964 to 1972. After a sojourn in Administration between 1972 and 1978, he moved to the higher echelons of management. Between 1978 and 1982 he was handling branch management as Assistant Branch Manager as well as sales of Microfilming products.
Mr. Sehjpal then moved into a field that to date he holds dear to his heart. Between 1982 and 1990, he was in charge of Personnel management - an all-India position. This period highlights three wage- settlements with the Union, handling of key HRD functions like Salary and Benefits surveys, Performance appraisals, Performance related pay systems, trainings and campus recruitment's. Based on his experience in the area of compensation packages, Mr. Sehjpal has and is also currently guiding companies to structure their pay packages.
During this entire tenure of work experience with KODAK, he had exposure to cross-functional responsibilities. He was thus rightly qualified for Profit Centre management. He was in charge of the Consumer Services Division at Bombay, which was a loss-making unit to start with. Mr. Sehjpal has, to his credit, the distinction of turning this unit around and pulling it out of the red and making it a contributor. During the total of 32 years with KODAK, Mr. Sehjpal had a lot of international exposure. He was trained in the USA (Rochester, NY), Singapore and Bangkok. His presentations at international conferences at Singapore, Bangkok and Dubai on the subjects of Communication and Performance Related Pay System, are talked about till date.
Mr. Sehjpal is an alumnus of the Administrative Staff College of India after having attended an extensive residential program there on “Finance for Non-Finance Managers.”
Currently he heads Oracle Management Services as Managing Director. This Mumbai based consulting firm is the one founded in 1994, and is highly successful in giving quality services to a range of prestigious clients.
Mr. Sehjpal has handled training assignments ranging from Time Management, Performance Appraisals, Leadership, Motivation and Team Building, Communication (Written and Verbal) Managerial Effectiveness, Improving Productivity through Creativity, Stress Management, Internal Customer Service, Presentation Skills, Selling Skills, etc. He has served (in the areas of HRD, Consulting and Placements) a wide range of companies including Adlabs-Imax, Asea Brown Boveri, Boston Consulting Group, VIP Industries, Maxwell Apparels, Polyset Plastics Ltd., Tata SSL, Mukand Steel, Larsen & Toubro, ICICI, Wonderpack Industries, Arvind Mills, Anglo-Eastern Ship Management (Hong Kong), MTNL, NITCO Tiles, SmithKline Beecham, Fulford (India) Ltd., Banner Pharmacaps (India) Pvt. Ltd., Parke Davis (India) Ltd., Siemens Limited, Shriram Transport Finance Co. Ltd., Naval Dockyard and College of Naval Warfare as well as the Films Division (Government of India) and many more social, religious and economic organizations.
Besides the above, Mr. Sehjpal has conducted some highly successful seminars on some of the above subjects, at Dhaka in Bangladesh, where he was invited. He carries the pride of having conducted training programs for some of the most prestigious commercial as well as NGO organization in Bangladesh. A partial list consists of Care, Concern, Marie Stopes, GrameenPhone, ACI, Square Pharmaceuticals, Cairn Energy, Opsonin, besides conducting seminars on behalf of Business Advisory Services, Dhaka Chamber of Commerce, Independent University of Bangladesh, Northern University and Stanford University. These seminars received widespread media attention.
He has traveled to England, Kenya and Bangladesh on assignments.
Academically, he is holder of a post-graduate in Diploma in Personnel Management, apart from a Master’s in Philosophy, and a Degree in Economics & Commerce. He is also a Certified Quality Engineer (by IIQM, Jaipur) and a certified ISO 9000 Lead Auditor (IRCA). He is a visiting faculty at prestigious institutions, like Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies, New India Assurance Co., Welingkar Instt. of Management Development, Indian Education Society. He enjoys a very good reputation for teaching concepts.
As consultant and trainer, Mr. Sehjpal is a Fellow Member of the Institute of Management Consultants of India, National Institute of Personnel Management (and currently the Chairman of the Mumbai Chapter), Bombay Management Association and National Council for Quality Management. He has made presentations at these prestigious institutions on subjects like Empowerment, Benchmarking, Creating Customer-friendly Organizations and Measuring the Intangibles.
Mr. Sehjpal is an appointed Director (Chairman Audit Committee) of Maxwell Industries Ltd. (Makers of VIP undergarments), Mumbai and Lovable Lingerie Ltd., Mumbai.
